The Wolftime Prayer

The skald-song of Fenris, sung over campfire and corpse alike

Spoken by
Space Wolves

Context

The Space Wolves are not Codex-keepers. They do not chant in long unison nor obey the cadences of the Ecclesiarchy. What they have, instead, is the old song — sung in Juvjk by skalds with axes still wet, around fires that should not have been lit on void-ships, beside corpses of brothers who fell well.

This is one form of the Wolftime Prayer. Twelve Great Companies, twelve variants — every priest of Russ tells it differently. None tell it wrong.

The Litany

There was Allfather, and the cold, and the long winter without end.

There was Russ, and his brothers, and the breaking of the world.

There was the hunt that does not finish.

We are wolves still. We are wolves yet.

When the Wolftime comes — and it comes — we will be there.

Brothers, drink, for the night is short.

Brothers, fight, for the dawn is shorter.

Ho! For Russ. Ho! For the Allfather. Ho! For us.

Have you sworn an oath fit for the Space Wolves?

Speak your vow at the shrine
